Under the category of "kids never cease to amaze ...", Cora has done that twice to me recently.
Episode 1 : When their food is hot, we blow it
off, right? Cora likes to participate by pursing her lips and blowing,
too. One night, I had beat Micki home after picking up Cora and had a
chance to start warming up leftovers for dinner. Cora doesn't truly
demand being held all that much, but she usually insists on it right
when we bring her home most weeknights. So, I was holding her and the
microwave beeper went off, so I opened up the door and reached in for
the bowl. Not surprisingly, it was warm to the touch and I pulled my
hand out and thoughtlessly exclaimed "ooh, hot!". Cora responded (not
that I was expecting ANY response) by, in my arms and 4 feet away from
the bowl inside the microwave ... blowing. Not playing a game, no
prompting from me ... she simply heard something was hot and it
therefore warranted a blow.
Episode 2 : Again, just Cora and I in the house -
this time playing on our bed, and simple enough I sneezed. Without me
getting or commenting I needed a tissue - really no reaction from me at
all, but Cora instantly stopped rolling around and started climbing
toward the edge of the bed. "Cora, where are you going? Don't fall
off!" was my predictable reaction. As I reached for her, she reached
into the drawer of Micki's nightstand (which is pretty much always
half-open to accommodate curious little hands) and pulled out something I
didn't know was in there and couldn't see ... but clearly she knew it
was there and remembered and thought to grab it. Rolling over and
facing me, she then held out her hand, to give me ... a handkerchief.
I love my girls ...
