picking corn

When the corn came on this year, the girls had REALLY been anxious about it.  We'd yell "CORN" and talk about picking it with grandpa as soon as it was ready.

Tim and the boys were picking it and selling it each night and the next morning, so when they came one night, the girls had already had their bath, but they didn't care.
They got their long sleeves on, hats, and took off into the evening with grandpa.

Cora dug right in to the fresh corn--she'd already had a few ears, so she knew what it was about! I think the taste and temperature surprised her, not exactly what she was expecting ;)

She tromped out there with the best of them--only really complaining when one of her paths ended.

...and then Grandpa would rescue her!

They had a blast out there, even if only for a few minutes.  I hope they will remember these times with family "as a kid..." Lord knows I can show them the pictures!

UPWARD cheering

At the encouragement of some of the other families at gymnastics and with Beanie's request, we decided to sign up for Upward cheer this fall.
I wondered if at any point she would change her mind, but she pressed on with it. The first night, we learned her first cheer--the part that was hilarious to me, is at the end, where she says "go Upward, go!"  She actually says "go awkward, go" --I have no idea why she keeps on with it, but she's persistent!

While mommy waited in line to complete the registration, Amara kept herself busy :)   A girl next to her was coloring a pony, very detailed, but what Amara did was pretty bold and graphic, I actually love it :)   Here's to a great cheer season, Beanie!

Ohio State Fair

We decided kind of on a whim to take the girls to the fair this year.   They are kind of the perfect ages to ride the kiddie rides--so we went.

I'm
pretty sure they rode not even half of the rides and were were still there for hours!  The ride bracelets were $23 each, even for Cora--but having G there was a nice treat for the girls.

The pony rides aren't part of the bracelet, but of course they wanted to ride.  They were both really sweet and calm around the horses.

The swing was a HUGE hit too--they all rode them several times.  The girls loved being behind Garhett and watching his reactions.

We never found kiddie bumper cars, but we did find bumper boats--score!  This kept the girls occupied for a few rounds while Garhett played the wipeout game right next to them.

The motorcycle caught Cora's eyes too--she took off and got in line before Amara had time to even make a decision about going or not!

Ohhhhhh that's right--Amara was off with grandma getting a slushie and cotton candy. I guess that makes it ok.

Who had the bright idea to do a pic with a monkey? And i paid for this? Amara thought it was mildly entertaining, but Cora wasn't so sure.

After the rides, we played games, a LOT of games. Eric spent close to $50 trying to win a giant yellow minion, and then who showed him up? Amara won her "nemo" fish for $1, that I carried around :)

Before we left, we had tickets in our pocket for the camel ride.  We waited in line and the girls enjoyed it. We were all getting tired, so Garhett took off to find a funnel cake. The girls did have a hot dog at one point too, but it got warm and no one felt like eating.

We had a super fun day with Gma and G and the fam.  Next year it'll be totally different, but i expect them to ask to go!

An amazing weekend

Last week was rough.
We moved out to Denton, construction and all.  Paper plates, one bathroom, tackstrips in the hallways and NO kitchen--but we moved.

We were convinced we HAD to get Copper Ct. on the market, so we pulled the plug and listed it.

Within 24 hours the house had been shown I think 8 times and inside of 48 hours we had 4 SOLID offers.  Susan was thrilled and called for all offers to go "best and final" with 6 pm Saturday as the cutoff.

As the time approached, we enjoyed our weekend as usual, played, unpacked, had a leisurely (although rainy) Saturday morning all together.

At around 4, we met Susan to review our 4 offers--ALL OVER LIST--and still only 72 hours after the house went live on MLS. Incredible.

We signed our offer and decided to all go to Bob Evans together (Ken, Susan, us and mom).

Sunday, we woke up to a chilly morning but the bluest skies ever and an amazing day.  We played outside ALL DAY.

Grandma Young came to help us early on--Eric and I ran to Home Depot to look at drawer pulls and get wood glue (typical).  She helped us get the carpeting in the "cottage" and we got the girls desk and chair and cabinet cleaned up and in place for them.

Later on Grandma Jahn came out too--she helped us pull weeds and beautify the back yard for HOURS. It was such a cool and amazing day, we all decided we just couldn't stay inside.

Dinner and showers were at the Jahn's (since water pressure is still hit or miss).  We enjoyed burgers and fresh corn from Grandpa's field--I mean does it get better?

The kids went to sleep clean and with little fuss.  Hopefully with visions of sweet corn in their heads.  In contract on Copper, fun at the new house, family and sweet corn.  If we can have a weekend or two like this a year, I'll consider myself pretty darn lucky ;)

Men at work

The other day I was home working and Big Dan had gotten a few subs out at the house to work.  Add to that the yard guys, Maria painting the girls rooms, me, and mom mowing and it looked like (key phrase) we were actually getting some things done!

roughing it at the new house

We were starting to feel the pinch of 2 mortgages and the struggle of not having moved into the new house--so we decided to pull the trigger.

On Wednesday last week, we packed some bags and moved to Denton, not to look back.

It's by NO means ready--but we're making it.

Tack strips in the hall, one barely working bathroom, no kitchen or laundry room, etc. but the girls rooms are pretty and peaceful and they seem to love them.  Cora even snuggled up with daddy and asked to sleep on the floor in her room last night, it was adorable.

We have high hopes to be be CLOSE to done here in August--forget the fact it was a 4-week reno that started in April.  Everyone keeps telling us how amazing it will be when it's done ;)
