"Grab your shoes, guys!"

So, when you toss out "want to go to the zoo to see the lights?" ...be ready for the answer :)  Before we could respond or even exchange glances, she was already up grabbing her boots and coat, and left Eric and I scrambling to get ready.

One day when Amara had taken a particularly late nap at Grandma and Grandpa's, Eric and I decided on a whim to head to the zoo.  Being members, we hadn't stressed over picking and arranging the perfect date, but rather had the attitude that if it worked out, great--and it did.  I grabbed some snacks and a water cup for the car ride and she and daddy loaded up, as it started to get dusk outside.

It was cold, sure--as noted by the snow/ice covered pond, but almost no wind at all.  We headed straight for the Polar Bears, who unfortunately were WAY in the back of their exhibit, not frolicking up near the glass like Amara is used to--but it was ok.   I was pretty impressed by this shot of lights Eric got, smart cookie using the railing to stabilize the camera, E!

We quickly diverted and headed to the carousel, hoping for a break from the cold and to let Amara enjoy her 2nd favorite part of the zoo.  I headed to the counter and bought enough tickets for 4 rides and we jumped on board.  All the rides, Amara stuck with her original horse--as much fun as she was having though, we could tell she was quickly wearing down.   There were a fair amount of kids coming and going on the ride, which always amazes her--but it really wasn't overly crowded at all.  Not like a few years ago.

We did quickly hit the Jungle Jack's area to visit the GIANT reindeer--man those things are impressive!  it was pretty open over there, though, and the wind was starting to pick up and cut at us, so we picked up the pace and didn't stat to visit Santa or anyone else at that point.

Rosy-cheeked, we all headed back to the main gate, when a cart of odds and ends, and particularly a pink bear caught her eye.  She has the same bear in white at home (a polar bear) so we weren't surprised.  Daddy named him "Sparkle" because of all the lights, on the way to the car, and we hopped in and got her movie rolling.

We splurged at McDonalds for some fries to warm us up--and enjoyed the car ride home.  Amara isn't always up so late, so she loves to spot the moon, stars, car lights, and all the other fun night sights we take for granted.  She really does make us see things through her eyes, and we're thankful.
