We JUST finished up our monster batch of applesauce from two years ago; however, due to either a bee shortage, or weather, or bad luck, we ended up with ZERO apples on any of our trees!! We decided since Cora was ready to eat and Amara loves applesauce, this was the first time to venture out and try some new apples.
Eric and I had already made a batch of Gala and Golden Supreme applesauce earlier and it was divine. Since some friends were interested though in learning, we got a TON of Cortland, Jonathan, Honeycrisp and Jonagolds to try some new blends.
Dawn and Kara got started chopping, Carolyn directed (since she'd helped before) and Miss Sarah was helping Eric process. We had a blast not only making it, but teaching the gals how to can it themselves. The OSU game was on, so we ordered pizza and just enjoyed the day.
I can't remember how many quarts we made on Saturday, but I was so glad when Kara came to get her sauce the next day and taking Miss Sarah's to her, and giving Carolyn some a few weeks later. Not only was it so fun to do, and it's delicious, but it's awesome spending time with friends and family at home--our favorite thing to do.
