Thanksgiving at the Jahns

Thanksgiving was certainly non-traditional this year, but fun! With dad's heart surgery just three weeks prior, he couldn't do much--so we all spent the night. Amara was up at 6 with dad, Eric and I to get the stuffing ready, in the bird and in the oven before the wattle at 8:30.

Then it was on to prepping all the sides while the rest of the family showed up--and boy did they ever! Dishes and people streamed in. The house smelled great! The men took up seats in the living room for football while we scurried around the kitchen putting finishing touches on the food.

The girls were all about helping, in bursts of course, and really got into doing things themselves.

Eric enjoyed his roll in the turkey duty this year--probably a first and only that dad won't do it, but he took charge from 6am on. Checking on it, babying it, and even carving and plating it all. (well, 2 plating it, b/c it was 24# afterall!)

Everyone enjoyed lounging--the kids and their technology too, but this year was much more low key I think than normal and we all enjoyed it very much.
